The Aviation Security (AvSec) Division employs a number of security measures to ensure the safety of travelling passengers and cargo at airports.
These measures involve both seen and unseen checks and include baggage screening, checks on individuals, security patrols around airport facilities and information sharing with relevant law enforcement authorities to ensure the safety of passengers at airports and on aircrafts.
The work of AvSec also complies with the Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) of Annex 17 to the Convention on International Aviation (Chicago Convention), issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Avsec’s security measures also comply with stringent audits carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands (CAASI) under Part 140 of The Civil Aviation Act’s Civil Aviation Rules (CARs).
